You’ve done it! You’ve looked at property after property and finally you’ve done it! You’ve looked at property after property and finally found the house you want to call home. Before closing day, the most important day in real estate, is upon you, there are some final things you need to take into account.
Tackle These 6 Tasks Before Moving Day
There are many little things that are now ahead of you. Can you remember them all? Chances are, you haven’t made a list and checked it twice. We have made the list for you! Take a look below to remember these 6 tasks that need to be tackled before closing day.
1. Find & Book Movers
Once you have established the closing date, it’s time to find and book the movers. Like you, movers are busy too. They book up fast – so make sure you lock down a mover before you are left in the dust.
2. Get a Locksmith
You finally get to have the keys to your new place! No matter how trustworthy the previous tenants were, I highly suggest replacing locks and keys around the home. You will feel safer in your own home, knowing that you are the only one that has entry to your home.
Booking the locksmith to come to your home can be challenging. To make it easier on everyone, make your appointment date as close as possible to the move in date. This will eliminate one stress the first night in your new home.
3. Cancel or Switch Utilities
This is one of the most common things that my clients forget. Be sure that you transfer or cancel your gas, electric, and cable before you move into your new home. The last thing you want is to move in with no running water or electricity. Aim to make the switch two weeksahead of time. That way, you know that your home is ready for you on moving day.
4. Find the Right Contractor
This is an optional task. If you are planning an overhaul, it is important to find the right contractor before you move. When you start your move, the last thing you think about is adding more stress to the situation. By calling before you move, this will allow you to have the home you’ve dreamed of faster than if you were to wait until you are settled.
5. Transfer Your Home Services
Have a cleaning service? Gardner? The last thing you want is for them to show up to a vacant home. Any home service that you may have for your current home will also need to be transferred or canceled. Make a phone call or tell them at your last visit so that they are fully aware of your move.
6. Hire a Babysitter For Moving Day
Taking care of kids or pets on moving day is a stress that can be easily avoided. Call a babysitter or pet sitter for move in day to keep the peace. Having your kids come home to a new home with their belongings already moved in will make the transition much easier.
