If you like pina coladas...
In this issue we uncover summer, with all the lengthening days, the sounds of crickets and cicadas grounding the stars into place above.
In the 1950s, Sunset Magazine started covering the California lifestyle. The Golden State had long attracted outdoor enthusiasts like rock climbers, skiers, hikers, and campers. With few bugs, mild weather, and little rain, California reigned supreme as an ideal outdoor environment. Architects responded by designing homes with large walls of glass for the indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Technology, such as Nanowall made it possible to temporarily open vast expanses of a wall for light and air. Decks now include kitchens filled with pizza ovens imported from Italy, high-tech grills, and smokers. Showers and jacuzzis are open to the sky with cedar and lavender filling your psyche. Enormous dining areas fit for Thanksgiving and lounging living areas that double the livable square footage of the home. It feels large and oversized, and yet stress is designed away, out of the realm of possibility. Comfort is king.
Eating has become cleaner and simpler by planting gardens that feed the family all summer long. Stress goes down as health benefits go up.
